F2P Money Making in OSRS: Best Early Methods

Making money as a free-to-play player in Old School RuneScape doesn’t need to feel like a grind. While profits are smaller than members, there are still solid methods that provide consistent GP with low requirements. 

Free players don’t have huge GP options, but methods like cowhides, iron ore, and wines of Zamorak create a steady foundation. The best plan is to mix money-making with skills you want to train, mining for Smithing, or cowhides for Combat and Crafting XP. It keeps the grind efficient while your bank grows. 

1. Cowhides in Lumbridge

One of the most popular starter moneymakers. Kill cows just north of Lumbridge and collect their hides. Bank them at Lumbridge or Al Kharid, then sell on the Grand Exchange. Cowhides are always in demand for Crafting training, making this method quick and steady for new players.

Profit estimate: 50–100k GP/hr (depending on competition).

2. Mining Iron Ore

Mining is the most consistent F2P income source. Iron rocks can be found at Varrock West, Rimmington, or the Mining Guild (40 Mining). Simply mine iron ore and bank it, or use it to train Smithing. High-level miners often compete, but even beginners can secure a few rocks and make money while training.

Profit estimate: 80–120k GP/hr.

3. Wine of Zamorak

Requires 33 Magic for Telekinetic Grab. Found in the Chaos Temple north of Falador. Each wine is worth over 1k GP, but the monks are aggressive, so food is needed. One of the best F2P money makers for mid-levels who can handle the risk.
